The new growth on this plant looks like a flower bud and is just as amazing as a floral display. It then looks a bit like a (clean) handkerchief once opened. This makes it a highly sought after medium sized (6-10m) flowering tree native to Tropical North Queensland and Torres Straits…performs particularly well in Townsville.
Attractive weeping form with spectacular new leaves of white and pink foliage that takes a few days to harden to green. Some of these new leaves can reach a length of 50-70cm. Bright burst of large white heavily scented sweet smelling flowers that are bee, bird and butterfly attracting, a perfect shade tree.
They are a superb garden tree and a real show stopper and a beautiful garden feature.
Plant these in a full sun position (with a little protection if possible) to encourage the beautiful weeping shape. They like regular organic feeding. I use Katek Super Growth to ensure it gets the nutrients needed. As with most plants, mulch around the base to retain moisture and keep weeds at bay. As the mulch breaks down feed your tree, regular deep watering is required until the tree is established. A fast growing low maintenance tree that can handle the clay soils here in Townsville.
I have had no issues with any pests or disease, I find this evergreen a hardy and spectacular tree for the garden.
